
Glen Walker is the founder of SmartGov. He has over 40 years’ experience in civil engineering and management, including 27 years in senior leadership roles. His past managerial positions covered many aspects of local government including infrastructure management, civil construction and maintenance, asset management, integrated planning, and business improvement.
Glen has broad consultancy experience. This includes research for the Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government, and coordination of a postgraduate course on review and enhancement of local government services at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
John Ferguson is an Executive leader with 26 years’ experience in local government. He is focused on building healthy and engaged communities through strategic land management, facility development, flexible program development and effective partnerships with external stakeholders.
John understands that successful and sustainable outcomes are achieved by broad and meaningful consultation, motivated and empowered staff, strong partnerships, transparent and achievable plans, experimentation and maintaining agility.
Mick Gray is a civil engineer with over 40 years’ experience in local government. Most recently, he successfully led one of the largest civil/works departments in NSW local government. Over a 3 year period Mick was able to reduce recurrent costs by approximately $3M through process efficiencies and reductions in waste, and more than halved the number of injuries to staff through improved safety behaviours.
Mick has extensive experience and expertise in asset management, risk management (including safety), project and contracts management, procurement, civil works construction and operations, plant, fleet and stores management.
Peter Rufford is a qualified civil engineer with extensive transport and infrastructure planning experience. Early in his career he was a transport policy specialist with the Australian Local Government Association, and planning engineer with the former NSW RTA and the NT Department of Infrastructure.
Peter has project managed regional transport planning studies for local councils and provided contract services to the National Transport Commission on heavy vehicle accreditation and local road access. He also worked with asset teams, where he reviewed engineering guidelines, developed infrastructure policies, and developed rehabilitation proposals.
